A Hike to Flagstaff
On Wednesday, Joe, JP and Kathryn headed up to Boulder to hike one of our favorite trails- Flagstaff. They said it was a little cold, but all were troopers and made it to the Flag at the top. Here's some pics from their day. I think I might have to frame some of these great pictures Kat got of the Joes!

It's a Snow Day! (No Jackets Required)
Well, the weather forecasters were right on this one. In 12 hours we got about 12 inches of snow. It came in so fiercely that the schools went ahead & announced late last night that there would be no school today. It was nice going to bed knowing I would get another 1/2 hour of sleep this morning! I told JP last night before bed that I thought he may have a snow day. He asked "What's a snow day?" awww... that made me smile. I think he now has figured out that snow days are to be treasured when you're a kid. A whole day off from school and if you're lucky you get to play in all that great white stuff!
It continued to snow lightly until about 10am & then the sun started to come out. By this afternoon, we had our beautiful blue skies back and the perfect weather to play in. The trio actually took a 3 hour nap so JP and I had plenty of time to build a snowman & some walls to protect ourselves from the snowball fight we planned. It was so warm that after a little while JP only was wearing a short sleeved shirt and his snow pants. We brought Ryan, Caitlin & Madison out after their naps and they had fun until their gloves started falling off. It could be because none of them really fit well (I was trying to shove Madison in a 6-12mo pair). Next year I will have to be on mission to find them all better gloves. Joe returned from his business trip this afternoon and watched R,C & M so JP and I could have our snowball fight. I have to say that I kicked his butt! It was so much fun & such a great Snow Day!

Yesterday, Madison & Caitlin got their first haircuts. My neighbor who is a hairdresser offered to cut Madison's hair because the back was getting so matty from all the knots she twirled in it. We kept the front longer, but I asked her to layer the whole back so it would be harder for her to get long pieces caught. I hated to cut it off, but it does look so cute & curly now. She sat there so nicely and I think she looks adorable. After seeing her sister get her hair cut, Caitlin had to be in on the pampering action. We just trimmed the back a little and cut a few wisps in the front so her hair won't be in her eyes as much. Although I didn't bring my camera and don't have any cute certificate, I am so appreciative that I could just walk a few houses down to have it cut. Of course, Ryan came along as well but we all know that boy won't be needing a haircut anytime soon!

Calm Between The Storms
Last Friday we received about 10 inches of snow. In true Denver style, almost all of it was gone today with temps in the upper 60's. But the news is predicting another 10 inches starting tomorrow so we thought we better take advantage of the sunshine while it lasts! Below are some pics from our fun trip to the park today.
In other news, JP had his six-month dental check-up last week. He's doing great overall, but unfortunately his under bite is creeping back. We head to the orthodontist again next month and we'll she what she says. He spent all last summer wearing a retainer and head gear and I hope we don't have to repeat that. Last time she did say that we would probably be fighting this under bite until he's in college. Not fun. I also took Madison along for the dentist to take a look at her front tooth. We couldn't tell if it was a little chipped or had some sort of decay. After looking at it the pediatric dentist asked if she was intubated at birth, which she was. She said it is chipped and thinks it may be from when she was intubated. She asked if it came in like this and I really don't think it did. She said it could have just been weakened because of it. Who knows. The good thing is that she said unless she shows signs of hot/cold sensitivity she should be fine with it as it is. She wants to see her in 3 months just to make sure there are no changes.

A Beautiful Day
It was another beautiful day in Denver & the kids spent a lot of time outside. It was nice and warm on the front porch & the trio had fun playing with toys. As the afternoon sun started to go down we put jackets on and headed to the backyard. Ryan, Caitlin & Madison now will look outside and say to me "blow bubbles, blow bubbles". I have been blowing bubbles for them on these warm days and I think they associate that with going outside.
Man, we have a lot of kids! They're everywhere!!

We talked Dad into coming outside to throw JP a few pitches.
Now, onto the shoes!! It has been my goal this month to try & figure out the girls spring/summer shoe situation. They are now almost out of size 4's (tiny feet!) so I've been trying to figure out how many shoes they will need. With boys its easy. A pair of tennis shoes & some sandals and you're pretty much covered. I have discovered with little girls you need to have more options- especially x2! I was excited this week to find that Target had buy 1 pair, get 50% off a second. Plus free shipping on shoes! I think (hope) we should be almost set now. I did one other order from Zappos and am keeping the nice pair of Keen shoes. I will probably get one more so each girl will have at least one pair of shoes with good support. With 4 kids I feel like every month I have something apparel-wise I am trying to get up to speed on. Even JP is growing like a weed! Organizing the clothes they are growing out of, deciding what to save & what to donate, seeing what they need next- its almost another part-time job! (but of course, I love every second of it!)

Pigtail Girls
I love this picture: Ryan "No, I would prefer not to hold Madison's hand"Here are a couple pics of the girls this week. They look so cute in their little pigtails. Unfortunately though, Madison's hair keeps getting shorter and shorter. I don't know if I have mentioned it before, but she has a habit of twirling her hair. It's a soothing mechanism for her. The other 2 love their blankies for comfort, but Madison prefers to twirl. I am always detangling the knots she creates. When it gets too bad I have no choice but to cut them out. :(
The kid's colds have been getting better this week. We did have a crazy night last night when Madison threw up twice . She was fine today, so I don't know what happened. This was the first time that any of the trio has ever thrown up. I should clarify- thrown up at home from being sick, the girls still have motion sickness issues. I always joke with Joe that all the good stuff happens while he is travelling for work!

Happiness is....
...when they finally realize crayons are for drawing & not for eating!
We've been getting a taste of spring the last few days and its been wonderful. I just can't wait until we can get outside more. Of course, I'm starting to see a new set of challenges I will be facing trying to take 3 toddlers out into the "real world". Just playing out front the past two days has had me chasing after them as one would decide it was time to run in the street while another thought it would be funny to run down the sidewalk as fast as they could.
I also had the realization that soon we would be having our doors & windows open more. I saw one of our neighbors today and decided I should start to apologize in advance to anyone I can about what is sure to be known as the crazy, loud house on the block! If one of them is not whining or crying at any given time, I am usually yelling at them to stop doing a no-no. I can see the terrible twos coming & they're not looking pretty x 3! Ahhh, Kindergarten is only 1200 days away. Just kidding, actually they are pretty adorable right now. They are talking more and more and able to understand new things everyday. They have a Numbers video they watch and are starting to get the concept of one thing vs two, etc. We've also been working on colors and I am seeing it starting to click.
Everyone has been struck by colds in the past 2 weeks. JP was home from school 3 days last week with really bad cold. The trio has it now along with bad coughs. We're almost to the end of dreaded RSV season. We've done really well keeping them healthy this winter and I just hope it continues until Spring. I just signed them back up for their gym class starting next month. I can't wait. Them being able to go out means Mom being able to go out too. Watch out world- here we come!
