We have a First Grader!

School's out for the Summer!

(I just love this picture- the look on JP & the bus driver's faces!)

It's official!

Today was the last day of Kindergarten for JP. He had such a good year and has learned so much. He can now read "chapter books" and he writes stories. He brought one home yesterday from cleaning out his cubby. It was a story about him and I going shopping for diapers for the babies- I have to save that one! Sometimes its like a puzzle trying to figure out his own spelling for the words, but its really cute.

I was trying to think of something to do each year to commemorate the last day of school. I decided to try and do an "interview" each year with the kids so they can see themselves and what they were doing in school each year. Hopefully I'll remember to do it again next year!

This evening we went for an early dinner to Red Robin (JP's choice). All the babies did great and we had a fun time. They all looked like such big kids drinking out of their sippy cups! After dinner we came home and then took a walk up to our town center and got some ice cream at Cold Stone. JP picked cotton candy ice cream with gummi bears! It was such a beautiful night and the perfect end to the school year.

Fun & Games and Caitlin's New Moves

Caitlin & Ryan learned to play peek-a-boo in the tupperware cabinet. They were laughing non-stop for about 10 minutes.

Unfortunately, Maddi learned the hard way that three's a crowd in this game.

Caitlin showing off her latest tricks! Will we have a walker soon??

Spittin Image?

We still don't know who JP looks like after 6 years, but I think I have a pretty good idea of who the girls take after!

Happy First Birthday to My Babies!

Finally! It's been so busy around here with sickness, parties & visitors that I haven't had anytime to announce that we now have 3 one-year-olds! Happy Birthday Babies!

Both sets of Grandparents flew out for the big occasion- Nana & Pa on Wednesday from South Carolina and Grandmom & Pop from Massachusetts on Friday.

Because Madison woke up sick and threw up on me Friday morning, we decided to put off cupcakes until the next day and basically just took it easy on their actual birthday. She was starting to feel better on Saturday, so in the afternoon, I put on their birthday t-shirts (Ryan wore JP's and I found matching ones on clearance for the girls. I was so happy the tradition could continue!) Along with "Happy Birthday" the kids loved their special cupcakes Grandmom made them :) (We had to laugh because she didn't think to follow the high altitude directions. Although they looked a little different, they tasted great!). Caitlin even dived in head first!

Sunday was the big party. We had an open house and over 70 of our friends, neighbors, and kids came by to help us celebrate surviving year 1. After lots of help getting ready, we were all set and had a great time. The kids were on their best behavior and did great with all the new faces. I think JP had the best time of all playing with all the kids in the backyard & alley. I had bought a bubble machine and jars of bubbles for all the kids to play with.

Today, the last of our company left and we will try and get back in the swing of things. We headed to the doctor for their one year appointment, so here's some updates on the trio:

Ryan:
weight: 24 lb 3 oz (75%)
height: 31.25 in (90%)
head circ: 18.75 in (80%)

Ryan is always on the go and loves to get into everything. We call him turbo as he races across the floor when he hears the dishwasher or fridge opening. He pulls himself up on everything and will walk along chairs and tables, but no steps on his own yet. He is a very smiley boy and such a big, loveable bear. People keep saying he is looking more and more like JP. He still doesn't have much hair, but its starting to come in.

Caitlin:
weight: 19 lb 5 oz (25%)
height: 29.75 in (75%)
head circ: 17 5/8 in (50%)

Caitlin is the socialite and she loves to perform. Her latest trick has been to pull herself to standing and try and stand on her own. She gets lots of claps whenever she does it and just eats it up. She is also the first to come over and crawl into my lap when I sit down. However, I still rank second to Daddy when he walks in the door. If we're not paying close enough attention, she'll quietly climb the stairs at any given opportunity- this one is sneaky!

Madison:
weight: 17 lb 14 oz (7%)
height: 28.75 in (45%)
head circ: (15%)

Maddi is my little peanut. She is the most intense & firery, but she also has the best laugh. We think she may have a few sensory issues that we will have to keep an eye on. It's almost as if she can get mad at a toy if it rubs her the wrong way or she will tug on her clothing sometimes like it is bothering her. Our pediatrician said it is common and we're hoping that she will grow out of it. I would say she is about 4-6 weeks developmentally behind the other 2, so maybe she just needs to catch up. Maddi finally started crawling a little over a week ago and its so fun to watch the little train of 3 babies roaming across the room.

Happy Mother's Day!

Mom, JP
& the sick little chickens

Today was a memorable Mother's Day. On Fri., Ryan got sick with a high fever, and by Sat. Caitlin was running one as well. Ryan seemed to be better today, but Madison was in such a bad mood screaming that we decided to go to the 24hr Urgent Care to make sure she didn't have an ear infection. She didn't, but Ryan did. We're just hopeful everyone will soon be on the mend.

The day wasn't all bad. Joe & JP got me Starbucks & Panera bagels this morning and they also gave me a cute outfit from one of my favorite stores. Going to the doctor wasn't how we planned to spend the day, but we were all together and that's what Mother's Day is all about. While it's tough to have more than one child sick at a time, I have to admit it there was a bright side to the sickness, for me at least. In the past 3 days I've gotten to sit and rock both Ryan and Caitlin for long periods of time in the rocking chair. This is something you just don't get to do very often when you have 3 at once. I cherish those moments, because I don't know when it will happen again.

Here's an exerpt from another blog that I felt was appropriate to share on Mother's Day. This Mom has triplets as well as older children. The first part is a letter she wrote to her now adult children & she recently added the rest:

I remember the first time I cradled you in my arms, but I can’t remember the last. Guess I always figured there’d be a next. If I had known it would be the last time, I’d have taken time to breathe in the sweet smell of your skin and hair, feel the heavenly warm weight of your little body in my arms. I’d have tried to burn that feeling – that image – into my brain, my heart, my soul.

When was the very last time I carried you to bed, tucked you in and kissed you goodnight? I wish I could remember. If only I could have known it would be the very last time, I’d have curled up next to you to on your bed, watched the rhythmic rise and fall of your chest, and let myself be lulled to sleep by the sweet sounds of your gentle slumber.

I can never forget the very first time I rocked you in my arms and sang to you – Hush Little Baby. It was as though no song before had ever had meaning. I can’t remember the last song I sang to you. I guess I figured there’d always be one more song to share – one more time that your little smiling eyes would tell me that your mommy had the sweetest voice in all the world. If I had known it would be the very last time, I’d have squeezed you just a little tighter, rocked you just a little longer, and sang another song and another and another…

When, my sweet child, was the very last time I swooped you up off of the floor to the heavenly sound of your squeals of delight and twirled you and dipped you and danced with you until I was out of breath but you were pleading, “Please, Mommy. One more time.” Always to some silly tune. I wish I would have known it would be the last. If only I had known…I’d have picked an endless song and we’d be dancing, still.

Things you’ll miss (among the many), believe it or not:

Trimming fingernails and toenails – those tiny little girl and boy hands – perfect little hands.

Gently putting a Band-Aid on a boo-boo – even if the boo-boo is only in their head.

Your little ones’ fuzzy little legs. I love fuzzy little legs. When my kids sit on my lap, I am tickled to see the golden peach fuzz on their legs. I don’t know exactly what it is, but it screams innocence.

And toys. You’ll miss toys – even when they’re scattered all over the floor. Because when the toys go away, so does a lot of the magic of childhood.

You'll also miss pushing your kids on a swing: The day Angus learned to swing by himself was one of the sweetest, saddest days of my life. I can’t believe the way my emotions tugged at me in two totally different directions at the same time. I was thrilled that my boy had mastered one of the greatest joys in childhood. My little boy had grown wings. I still remember that feeling from my own childhood when I thought that I could touch the clouds with my feet if I only could only swing high enough. But even as I was thrilled for Angus, an equal part of me was sad. I knew it was the end of “Push me, Mommy.”

To be completely honest, the end of the “push me, Mommy” stage for my triplets held a different meaning. I’m sure I was quite a sight on the public playgrounds, running the gauntlet between three different swings – each swing with the potential to send me flying into a face-full of rubber mulch. I was a bit more relieved when they learned to swing on their own. But there is still a twinge of sadness there, too. Sadness because my babies don’t need me for that anymore.

You’ll also miss hearing “Mommy, look at me!” and “Mommy, do you know what?” and “Mommy, I want that!” Basically just the constant chitter-chatter of your little ones. This one’s a biggy for me. My kids are huge talkers. When my older kids were younger, I used to kid with them that God gave them each a certain amount of words and if they used them up, they’d never be able to speak again. But, even the sweetest, chattiest child turns into a teenager who will seem to have lost all ability to communicate, resorting to one-word sentences, body language, grunts and clicks. Trust me when I say, you’ll miss your chatter-box.

I guess what I’m getting at is that it all goes by so quickly. Don’t forget what a gift motherhood really is. The real gift of motherhood is in the tiny things – in the actual mothering.

So, when your little one begs, “Pick me up, Mommy,” pick her up and whisper in her ear that she is the most precious little girl in the whole world. Make it your little secret. A confidence. Someday, when she’s grown, she’ll give you a call when she’s down and say, “Pick me up, Mom” and you’ll share a funny story to make her smile, and you’ll tell her that she is the most precious girl in the whole world. When she says, “Watch me, Mommy,” watch her. Someday, she’ll march down the aisle in her cap and gown and her eyes will search the crowd to find you. And when your baby’s eyes meet yours and she smiles, you’ll hear her heart say, “Watch me, Mommy.” And you’ll watch. And you’ll cry tears of joy for what she’s become and tears of sadness because your baby is not your baby anymore.

So when you have those stressed-out days when you want to hang up your mommy-apron for the day, don't lose sight of how fleeting childhood is. It will help you remember what a wonderful gift motherhood really is.

This is only the beginning I'm afraid...and other new stuff

I'm beginning to see the 1st signs of triple trouble! I have now cleared most of the bottom of the changing table & only keep one row of diapers pushed to the back of the 2nd shelf. The scary thing is just how proud they were of themselves!

I forgot to post weights from thier 4/22 RSV shots:
Ryan-
23 lbs, 14 oz
Caitlin-
19 lbs, 1.3 oz
Madison-
18 lbs
JP received a "spark" scooter from Grandmom & Pop for his birthday & he was excited to test it out. I believe his words were "Awesome...so sweet!" His phases these days crack me up & remind me he's not a little boy anymore.

Here he is in action:

I do about an hour long walk these days with the babies. It's quite a workout as the babies weigh just over 60 lbs & the stroller about 40 lbs!

I always stop & Ryan loves to look at the water running through the creek.

Caitlin

Madison relaxing on the ride.

My highlight is about 1/2 way through I walk past a clearing that is home to lots of prairie dogs. I think they're pretty cute!

And Last, but definitely not least... here I was a year ago today!
